May 18, 2012. Betty Mackey will lead a trough planting workshop at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Rocks, plants, planting medium, and mulch will be provided.

April 16, 2012. The new book, Fairy Gardens, by Betty Earl, is available. It tells how to make and furnish miniature gardens with fairy-sized accessories and gives lots of plant and fairy lore as well. Color illustrations.

March 7, 2012. Duane Campbell gave a presentation on carrying tropical plants through winter at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Good job, Duane!

August 7, 2011. The book, Creating and Planting Garden Troughs, by Joyce Fingerut and Rex Murfitt, was updated and released in paperback.

March 14, 2011. Betty Mackey did a demonstration of three ways to make small troughs: Hypertufa, Papercrete, and Mudcrete, at the Mount Washington Garden Club in Maryland.

March, 7, 2011. Betty Mackey did a demonstration of how to make a mudcrete trough and plant it with succulents at 2 pm in the Demonstration Hall at the Philadelphia International Flower Show.

March 8, 2011. Duane Campbell, author of Best of Green Space: 30 Years of Composted Columns, will talk about growing vegetables at 5 pm in the Demonstration Hall at the Philadelphia International Flower Show.

February 3, 2011. Publisher Betty Mackey lectured in Boston on "Is Print On Demand Right for You and Your Book?" at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, as part of the Garden Writers Association meeting. September, 2008. Nellie Neal's book, Organic Gardening Down South, is available. Betty and Nellie will show it off at the Garden Writers Association annual meeting in Portland, Oregon.

April and May, 2008. Betty taught three workshop sessions on making and planting troughs at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. These will be repeated in 2009.

March 5, 2008. Betty will do a live demonstration of papercrete troughs at the Philadelphia Flower Show at the Convention Center. It will be in the Demo Room at 2:00 pm.

November 15. 2007. Betty Mackey gave an illustrated talk on cutting gardens and bouquets to the Mill Creek Valley Garden Club in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania.

November 8, 2007. Betty sold books and cards at the Presidents' Day Conference of the Garden Club of New Jersey.

November 7, 2007. Monica's new edition of ever-popular Florida Gardening: The Newcomer's Survival Manual, is in production at the printer's.

April 20, 2007. Betty will teach a workshop on making papercrete troughs at Longwood Gardens. This class fills up fast!

March 7, 2007. Betty will show the easy way to make great papercrete troughs. It will be held at 11 am in the demonstration auditorium. It is free with entry to the Philadelphia Flower Show.

October 9, 2006. Who Does Your Garden Grow, by Alex Pankhurst, just arrived from the printer. It looks great and is ready to ship.

April, 2006. Congratulations, Rex Murfitt! His book Creating and Planting Alpine Gardens, published by B. B. Mackey Books in 2005, won a Silver Trowel Award for excellence in book writing from the Garden Writers Association of America .

Also, Betty's CD, Making Papercrete Troughs, is finished and available from this website.

March 7, 2006. Betty gave the first papercrete trough demonstration at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Troughs made at her rock garden society workshop were on display in their flower show booth.

February, 2006. Happy 20th anniversary to B. B. Mackey Books (won't say about my personal birthday)! I am now a multimedia publisher and have brought out my first CD, Moments in the Garden. It includes a screensaver, two gorgeous slide shows, and six PDF notecards which you can print out at will. Also I have given up on my old slide projector and now do my talks with a laptop and digital projector. You should see -- the slides move, pan, fade, and more. It really keeps the audience awake! And if they want to see it again, they can buy the disk (alas, Windows only at this point, no Mac).

September, 2005. Wonderful trip to Seattle, Victoria, and Vancouver, culminating in the annual symposium of the Garden Writers Association, with an advance look at plant releases for 2006.

July, 2005.
An exciting trek to see alpine plants in St. Johns, Newfoundland is planned. This is the annual meeting of the North American Rock Garden Society. Will there be icebergs? Who knows. But there will be arctic willows, strange northern plants, and lots of great seafood in a charming setting.

April 30, 2005. Betty Mackey will be lecturing in LaPorte Indiana, speaking at a Master Gardener event on cutting gardens.

February, 2005.
Publication of the new book, Creating and Planting Alpine Gardens, by Rex Murfitt. Long awaited, it is here and is a wonderfully clear guide to how to embark on an alpine type of garden.

September 13, 2004.
Betty Mackey will speak on a panel at the annual meeting of the Garden Writers Assocition on Long Island, about publishing and self publishing.

Summer, 2004
Traveling to see gardens in England was great but there's work getting done too, on the garden and on Rex's new book. Mackey Books has reached agreement with author Alex Pankhurst and will do a North American paperback edition of her book, Who does Your Garden Grow.
